2016 REEDLEY COLLEGE TIGERS

GOLF TOURNAMENT SUMMARIES

 

 

August 28-29, 2016  -  On a sunny but breezy afternoon on the central coast in Ventura, with temperatures in the 70’s, the Tigers opened the season by competing in the South Coast Golf Classic, hosted by SBCC.  Reedley shot a team score of 345 at Olivas Park Golf Links for Round 1, leaving them in 3rd place out of the 12 teams at the tournament.  The leading scorer for the Tigers was the duo of Sophomore Jessica Rudd and Freshman Monique Torres-Jimenez, who both posted 81’s. Sophomore Katie Horsford fired an 82, followed by Freshman Alaura Southern’s 101. The 345 team total placed the Tigers behind SBCC (308) and Sierra (324).  Round 2 saw the Tigers at Buenaventura Golf Course on a beautiful Monday morning, with very little wind and temperatures in the 70’s.  The Tigers played very solid team golf, shooting a score of 324.  Leading the way for Reedley was Katie Horsford, who posted a fine round of 74. Jessica Rudd also shot a very good round of 78.  Monique Torres-Jimenez fired a round of 83, and Alaura Southern completed the scoring on the day by shooting a round of 89.  The Tigers finished in 3rd place for the 2 day 36-hole tournament, and were higher than 9 other teams from Southern California.  It was a terrific way to begin the 2016 season!  Next up is C.V.C. Tournament #1 at Fig Garden Golf Club on Thursday.  Fresno City College will be the host, and tee times are scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon.

 

September 1, 2016  -  The Tigers played Central Valley Conference Tournament #1 at Fig Garden Golf Club with a terrific round of golf, shooting a team score of 340, 19 shots better than the 2nd place team in the conference!  The weather was very accommodating for the players on the day, as the majority of the afternoon was filled with sun, a slight breeze, and very comfortable temperatures in the low 90’s.  The Tigers took advantage of the tremendous scoring conditions, finishing with 3 of the top 4 scorers on the day.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Katie Horsford, who shot a score of 75. Jessica Rudd also had a very solid day, posting a round of 9-over par 81.  Monique Torres-Jimenez followed with another good score, firing an 11-over par round of 83.  Alaura Southern capped the scoring for the Tigers on the afternoon, shooting a respectable round of 97.  The Tigers collected 4 points in the CVC standings, and improved their season record to 3-0 in the C.V.C. by defeating their conference rivals.  C.V.C. Tournament #2 will take place on Tuesday at the Pacific Grove Golf Links on the Monterey Peninsula, as Canada College will be the host school.  Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Pacific Grove.

 

September 6, 2016  -  On a sunny and beautiful afternoon on the Monterey Peninsula, with terrific views of the Pacific Ocean and temperatures in the low 70’s, the Tigers finished 2nd in a Central Valley Conference tournament hosted by Bay Area rival Canada College.  Reedley posted a solid team score of 341, and finished 5 shots behind Canada College on the afternoon.  Leading the way was Sophomore Jessica Rudd, who shot a round of 79, which was the 3rd best score of the day. Monique Torres-Jimenez carded a solid round of 81, Katie Horsford turned in a round of 86, and Alaura Southern posted a 95 to finalize the scoring for the Tigers. The Tigers came away with another 3 points in the Central Valley Conference standings, and are now in a 1st place tie in the overall team standings with Canada College and 3 points ahead of FCC after 2 tournaments.  The Tigers now have a record of 5-1 in the C.V.C.  The Tigers are showing improvements early in the young season, and are looking to increase their standing in the C.V.C.  The next tournament for the Tigers in conference is scheduled for Kings River Golf & Country Club in Kingsburg on Thursday.  Reedley College is the host school for this conference tournament.  Tee time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

 

September 8, 2016  -  The Tigers hosted the 3rd Central Valley Conference tournament of the season at Kings River Golf & Country Club, a tough course with a good deal of hazards and out of bounds that surround the beautiful layout.  The weather was sunny, with very little wind and temperatures in the mid 90’s.  The Tigers took advantage of their local course knowledge, and played a solid round of golf as a team.  Leading the way for the Tigers in the tournament with a solid effort was Jessica Rudd, who posted a co-medalist +4 over par round of 76.  Katie Horsford carded a solid round of 81.  Monique Torres-Jimenez shot a round of 87.  Alaura Southern rounded out the scoring with a personal best score of 96 at Kings River Country Club. The 340 team score was 3 shots ahead of Fresno City College, and extended their lead in the team points race after three conference tournaments to 2 points over Canada College for the CVC leading Tigers.  The Tigers have an overall record of 8-1 on the season in the C.V.C.  Next up on the schedule for the Tigers will be a C.V.C. tournament held at Lemoore Golf Course in Lemoore on Tuesday, hosted by West Hills - Lemoore College.  Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 noon.

 

September 13, 2016  -  Under beautiful weather conditions, with temperatures in the high-70’s, the Tigers battled the Lemoore Golf Course and shot a season best team score  of 324!!  The Tigers were able to win the C.V.C. Tournament by beating Fresno City College by 1 shot!  Leading the way for the Tigers was Monique Torres-Jimenez, who shot a terrific round of 74, finishing 3rd overall individually on the afternoon.  Katie Horsford fired a solid round of 77.  Jessica Rudd came in with a score of 79, and Alaura Southern rounded out the scoring with a conference best round of 94.  The Tigers hit over 55% of their fairways during the round, which is a good indication of how sharp they were in putting themselves into position off of the tee to approach the difficult greens.  Reedley was satisfied with their effort, but know that they must keep improving as they get closer to the middle of the conference season.  The victory enables the Tigers to maintain their 1st place lead in the C.V.C. standings over the second place Canada team by 4 points, and their record in conference now stands at 11-1.  Overall the Tigers have won 3 of the 4 C.V.C. tournaments on the season.  Reedley’s next tournament will be played at Belmont Country Club in Fresno on Tuesday.  Fresno City is the host school at this neutral site tournament scheduled to begin at 1:30 pm.

 

September 20, 2016  -  Under very warm weather conditions, with temperatures reaching over 95 degrees, the Tigers shot a team score of 327 at Belmont Country Club in Fresno.  The Tigers finished 1st on the day, defeating 2nd place Fresno City College by 11 strokes and Canada College by 52 shots.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Monique Torres-Jimenez, who took 2nd place individual honors with a solid round of 76.  Katie Horsford came in with a gutsy round of 80, followed by Jessica Rudd’s score of 82.  Alaura Southern’s season tying best round of 89 was the 4th and final score for the Tigers on the afternoon.  The Tigers posted a 3-0 mark on the day, improving their lead over the other teams in the C.V.C. by 6 points, and their overall record in conference to 14-1.  The focus shifts back to C.V.C. Tournament action Thursday as the Reedley Tigers head to Mountain View, and will play in Tournament #6 at The Golf Club of Moffett Field.  The Canada Colts will be the host school for the event.  A mini shotgun start is scheduled for 12:00 noon on Thursday.

 

September 22, 2016  -  The Reedley College Tiger golf team played C.V.C. Tournament #6 at the Golf Club at Moffett Field.  The Tigers did not play as well as they would have liked, shooting a team score of 369 in warm and slightly breezy conditions.  The Tigers did have 2 scores in the 80’s on the afternoon, though, and two of the top five scorers for the day.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Jessica Rudd, who posted an 84. Monique Torres-Jimenez carded an 86, and Alaura Southern shot a round of 93.  Catie Heinzmann shot a round of 106 to round out the scoring for the day.  The Tigers came in 2nd on the day, but kept control of their Central Valley Conference 1st place spot in the CVC standings.  RC is now in the lead in the overall points standings over Fresno City College with 22 total points, 5 points ahead of the Rams.  The Tigers improved to 16-2 on the season, and are looking forward to the North-South Invitational at Morro Bay Golf Course on Sunday & Monday, hosted by the SBCC Vaqueros.  Tee time is scheduled for 8:30 am on Sunday.

 

September 25-26, 2016  -  The Reedley College Tigers played at the 8th annual North-South Invitational, a 36-hole event hosted by Santa Barbara City College.  The opening round was held on Sunday morning at Morro Bay Golf Course, and the Tigers posted a good round of 348.  After Day 1 the Tigers were in 5th place out of 16 teams from both northern and southern California.  Sophomore Jessica Rudd led the way with a round of 78.  Monique Torres-Jimenez shot a round of 81, Catie Heinzmann posted a round of 93, and Alaura Southern carded a round of 96. The early morning second and final round was solid as the Tigers played consistent golf.  Reedley did not play as well as they would have liked, posting a team total of 352, but improved their overall team standings from Day 1.  Jessica Rudd paced the Tigers with a terrific round of 75.  Monique Torres-Jimenez shot an 81, and Alaura Southern carded a 94. Catie Heinzmann shot a 101 to round out the scoring for Reedley College.  The Tigers finished the tournament with a team total of 700, which placed them in 4th place overall among the 16 teams at the event.  The Tigers finish was a tie for the best ever school finish in this tournament (tying last year’s finish), and Reedley was also the 3rd best Northern California team in the tournament.  On an Individual note, Sophomore Jessica Rudd made the Top 6 All-Tournament Team by shooting a 153 (78-75) for the 2 rounds. Overall, it was a good way to spend the weekend on the Central Coast in California, and the Tigers look forward to their next conference match at Kings River Golf & Country Club in Kingsburg next Tuesday.  Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 noon for C.V.C. Tournament #7.

 

October 4, 2016  -  The Tigers played an up and down round of golf on a sunny, warm afternoon at their home course, Kings River Golf & Country Club in Kingsburg.  With temperatures in the high 70’s and very little wind, the Tigers posted a team score of 371 to finish in 3rd place in C.V.C. Tournament #7, 9 shots behind current 2nd place Fresno City College and 16 shots behind tournament winner Canada College.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Jessica Rudd, who posted a 2nd best individual tournament round of 81.  Alaura Southern shot a round of 91.  Monique Torres-Jimenez posted a round of 99. Catie Heinzmann carded a round of 100 to cap the scoring.  The 3rd place finish left the Tigers with a record of 17-4 in the C.V.C. and on the season. The Tigers are looking forward to their next tournament of the season at Bing Maloney Golf Club in Sacramento, on Thursday.  The format is a Stableford Scoring System, and each of the players will accumulate points based on their scores for each hole.  It should be a lot of fun.  Tee time is set for 11:40 am in south Sacramento.  Sac City College is the host school for this event.

 

October 6, 2016  -  The Tigers played in the annual Jan High Memorial Invitational at Bing Maloney Golf Club in Sacramento, hosted by Sac City College, and played under the guidelines of a Modified Stableford Rules Scoring System.  The weather was warm and sunny, with temperatures were in the low 80’s, and there was very little wind in the State’s capitol city.  The Tigers finished in 4th place out of the 9 teams in the tournament, scoring a team total of 93 points, and recording a Top 4 at this tournament for the second time in Tiger women’s golf program history!  Leading the way for Reedley was Monique Torres-Jimenez, who accumulated a tournament fifth best point total of 32. Jessica Rudd had a very solid afternoon and totaled 28 points for the Tigers, finishing in 6th place.  Alaura Southern accumulated 23 points for the Tigers, also a very good day.  Catie Heinzmann rounded out the Tigers top 4 scorers with 10 points on the day. Monique Torres-Jimenez and Jessica Rudd were both named to the Top 6 All-Tournament team for their efforts on the day, also a significant accomplishment for the Tiger team.  The Tigers are presently in 1st place in the C.V.C. over Fresno City College, having accumulated 24 points on the season.  Next up for the Reedley team will be C.V.C. Tournament #8 at the Golf Club at Moffett Field in Mountain View.  Tee time is scheduled for 11:30 noon at the Colts’ home course in the Bay Area.

 

October 11, 2016  -  On a warm, sunny and beautiful afternoon in the Bay area town of Mountain View, the Tigers played a good round of team golf at the Golf Club at Moffett Field, a tricky course with a good deal of tough conditions and difficult greens.  Reedley posted a team score of 338, 8 shots behind Fresno City, which shot a second best team score for the 2016 season.  Leading the way was Jessica Rudd, who shot a round of 77.  Monique Torres-Jimenez posted a solid round of 78, with an Eagle and a Birdie finish!!  Alaura Southern fired a strong round of 91, and Catie Heinzmann carded a season best round of 92. The Tigers came away with 3 points in the Central Valley Conference, and have secured a sole 1st place finish ahead of Fresno City College for the current team standings.  The Tigers now have a record of 19-5 in the C.V.C., and are looking to improve upon their overall seasonal record in a couple of days.  The next tournament for the Tigers is another Central Valley Conference match at Fig Garden Golf Club in Fresno on Thursday.   Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 noon.

 

October 13, 2016  -  On a sunny, beautiful and very nice day in Fresno, the Tigers placed 3rd out of the four teams in the Central Valley Conference tournament hosted by the Fresno City College Rams. Reedley shot a team score of 378, 35 shots behind the Canada College team on the day.  Fresno City College came in 2nd with a team score of 347.  West Hills College finished in last place with no team score.  Fig Garden Golf Club proved to be a course that provided a very difficult test of golf for the Reedley team to play.  The leading scorer for the Tigers was Sophomore Jessica Rudd, who posted a round of 81.  Monique Torres-Jimenez shot a round of 88, Catie Heinzmann carded a 100, and Alaura Southern posted a round of 109.  The Tigers now own a 2 point advantage over Fresno City College in the team standings, and have 29 total points to date.  The Tigers now need to focus their attention on the next Central Valley Conference tournament at Lemoore Golf Course next Tuesday.  This tournament, hosted by West Hills-Lemoore College, and will be a very important test of golf.  Tee time is slated for 12:00 noon in Lemoore.

 

October 18, 2016  -  The Tigers played Central Valley Conference Tournament #10 at Lemoore Golf Course in Lemoore, and came away with a team score of 358.  The weather conditions were warm, with temperatures in the 80’s, and there was some wind, which is very normal for the west side of the Valley this time of year. The greens were in very good shape, though, and the Tigers putted very solidly on this afternoon.  The Tigers finished the tournament in 3rd place.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Jessica Rudd, who posted a round of 79 (+7).  Monique Torres-Jimenez had a good day on the course, shooting a round of 86.  Alaura Southern posted a round of 94. Catie Heinzmann rounded out the scoring with a 99.  The 3rd place finish enabled the Tigers to improve their record to 21-9 in the CVC.  The Tigers are in 1st place in the conference standings, maintaining a lead over Fresno City College by 1 point with 2 tournaments remaining.  Next up for the Tigers will be a tournament on Tuesday at Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera.  The West Hills College – Lemoore Golden Eagles will be the host for this C.V.C. Tournament.  Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 noon. 

 

October 25, 2016  -  On a warm, sunny but very comfortable afternoon in the Central Valley, the Tigers came out and played a solid round of team golf at Dragonfly Golf Club for C.V.C. Tournament #11, the next to last tournament for the regular season.  Reedley posted a team score of 351, finishing in 2nd place at the tournament behind Fresno City College.  Leading the way was Freshman Monique Torres-Jimenez, who shot a very solid round of 79!!  Monique hit all 14 fairways and 15 out of 18 greens on her round, and easily had her best ball striking round of the season. Jessica Rudd posted a round of 85.  Catie Heinzmann was the next counting score for the Tigers, as she shot a 93.  Alaura Southern rounded out the scoring with a 94 for the Tigers on the day.  The Tigers four scores were in the top 10 overall for the tournament, and enabled them to solidify their top finish in the Central Valley Conference and advance to the Post Season as a team for the 3rd time in school history.  The Tigers now have 34 points in the conference standings, and have an overall record of 23-10 in the C.V.C.  The next tournament ahead for the Tigers will be the final tournament of the regular season, and will be played at Copper River Country Club in northeast Fresno. The Tigers will be the host school for this final neutral tournament, scheduled to tee off at 12 noon.

 

November 1, 2016  -  Under perfect weather conditions, with temperatures in the mid-70’s, the Tigers played the beautiful Copper River Country Club golf course in northeast Fresno and shot a team score of 323, a season best overall score for 2016!  The Tigers won the tournament by 7 shots over Fresno City College, and claimed BACK TO BACK Central Valley Conference Championships!!!  Leading the way for the Tigers was the duo of Jessica Rudd and Monique Torres-Jimenez, who shot terrific rounds of 74, tying as co-medalists for the day.  Katie Horsford fired a solid score of 84.  Catie Heinzmann capped the scoring by carding a round of 91, her best round of the season.  The Tigers putted well on the Copper River C.C. greens on the afternoon, averaging just over 30 putts per player.  The speed of the greens were fast, and the slopes of the greens made putting very difficult, but the Tigers were able to keep their shots below the hole, and were able to putt aggressively.  Reedley was very satisfied with their effort, but know that they must continue to improve as they get prepared for the post season.  The 1st place finish enabled the Tigers to advance to the Northern California Regional Championships at Butte Creek Country Club in Chico next week for the 3rd year in a row.  The Tigers’ record in the Central Valley Conference finished at 26-10.  Overall the Tigers finished with the 3rd best regular season record in the history of the Tiger program!  Next up is the Post Season, and the Tigers are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to compete for the Regional Championship against the best teams from Northern California!

 

November 7-8, 2016  -  On a beautiful, warm and sunny day in Chico, with temperatures in the mid 70’s, the Reedley College Tigers played for one of four spots to advance to the State Championships next week.  In a format that matches the best teams from the Northern California region of the state, the Tigers finished the first round in 6th  place, and are in a position to advance to State as a team.  Sierra, who shot a 312, is in 1st place ahead of all of the teams to qualify for the right to advance and try to earn a State Championship next week. Reedley didn’t played very well, shooting a round of 366.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Jessica Rudd, who posted a round of 84.  Monique Torres-Jimenez shot a round of 86.  Alaura Southern carded a round of 96. Catie Heinzmann rounded out the scoring for the Tigers with a round of 100.  The Tigers know that they must perform much better on Tuesday in order to advance as a team.  On Day #2, the Tigers were back on the course, this time their round was part of a shotgun start for the day.  The weather was warm and pleasant, with temperatures in the 70’s and breezes at approximately 5-10 mph. The Round #2 leader for Reedley was Monique Torres-Jimenez, who posted a solid 7 over par round of 79.  Jessica Rudd fired a round of 84, Alaura Southern carded a 94, and Catie Heinzmann completed the scoring by posting another 100 for the Tigers.  The 357 total was the 4th best afternoon score posted by a team at the NorCal Championships, but left the Tigers as the 6th best team at the Northern California Regionals.  The Tigers finished at 723 strokes for the tournament, and missed qualifying for the State Championships by 8 strokes as a team. Freshman Monique Torres-Jimenez’s 165 (+21) and Sophomore Jessica Rudd’s 168 (+24) enabled both players to advance as Individual Qualifiers for the State Championships as a result of their efforts. Next up on the schedule will be a trip to the State Championships at Morro Bay Golf Course on the Central Coast on Sunday and Monday for another 36-hole tournament to determine the overall State Team and Individual championships for 2016!

 

November 13-14, 2016  -    On a very warm and calm day on the Central Coast of California at the Morro Bay Golf Course, the Tigers had 2 individual players compete at the California Community College State Championships.  Monique Torres-Jimenez and Jessica Rudd qualified as the Top 2 Individuals out of the Northern California Regionals last week in Chico, and were the Tiger representatives for the 2016 State Championships. The conditions definitely played a factor on the day as the Tigers struggled in Round #1.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Monique Torres-Jimenez, who played well tee to green, and shot an 83.  Jessica Rudd got off to a terrible start, but righted her round after 4 holes, and shot a score of 84. The 2 Tigers were both in the Top 20 overall after the first day.  Round #2 proved to be a much better day for the Tigers.  Scoring was still very difficult because of the thick fog and cold conditions, with visibility being extremely hampered.  Jessica Rudd made a significant difference for the Tigers, improving by 5 shots over her Sunday round, posting a 79.  Monique Torres-Jimenez again hit the ball very solidly, and posted another score of 83. Individually, Jessica Rudd finished T-15th with her 163 total.  Monique Torres-Jimenez finished in a T-19th place with a 166 total, a very respectable total for the Tiger freshman.  The Tigers had a fantastic season, and the chance for these 2 players to compete at State was a terrific way to end 2016!!  The Reedley College Tiger golf team accomplished a great deal this season.  Many great performances and accomplishments were set, and the Tigers have a tremendous amount to be proud of.  The future is very bright as well, and the program looks forward to the future and the 2017 season!!
