2024 WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM RECAPS
October 7, 2024 - The Tigers played the State Preview Tournament at Monarch Dunes Golf Club, a tough course with a good deal of hills, water, and fast greens on a very undulating layout. The weather was sunny, with some gentle afternoon breezes and temperatures in the mid 70’s. The Tigers took advantage of the favorable scoring conditions, and played a really solid round of golf as a team, shooting a very respectable score of 317, and finishing in 2nd Place out of the 13 teams at the event (7 from Southern California and 6 from Northern California, including 8 of the Top 9 teams in the State Rankings)! Leading the way for the Tigers with a terrific effort was Ethel Asequia, who posted a T-2nd score of +6 over par 77, just missing earning Medalist honors by a single shot. Ethel made 3 Birdies on the day, taking advantage of her accurate iron play and shooting Even par (35) on the back 9. Maya Promwongsa also played very well, posting a 78. Maya converted on 2 Birdies on the day, and putted very nicely as well (no 3 putts!). Ava Arredondo carded a solid round of 80, finishing in T-7th place on the day individually. Jacie Johnson shot a very gutty round of 82, once again showing off her consistent play as the season has continued, and contributing as the 4th and final counting score on the day. The 317 team score was another of many so far this season for the 2024 squad. The Tigers’ score was 19 shots better than the 3rd place team on the day, the Modesto JC Pirates. Next up on the schedule for the Tigers will be Big 8 Conference South Division Tournament #6 at Buena Vista Golf Course in Taft on Thursday. Tee times are scheduled for 12:00 Noon in Kern County.
October 10, 2024 - The Tigers traveled south to Taft and then west into the foothills of Kern County to play Big 8 Conference Tournament #6 at Buena Vista Golf Course, hosted by the Taft College Cougars. Weather forecasters called for sunny and warm weather for the majority of the day, with temperatures in the low 90’s, and the Tigers took advantage of the tremendous playing conditions for their round. The Tigers played very solid golf, shooting a team score of 313, their 3rd best score of the season, and easily defeated Taft and Fresno City. Leading the way for the Tigers and shooting a round of 75 on the day was Ethel Asequia, making 2 Birdies on her round. Ethel took Individual Medalist honors with the best score of all the players on the afternoon, adding to her collegiate victories total over the last two years as a Tiger. Next was Ava Arredondo, who fired a solid round of 76, making 14 Pars on the day. Maya Promwongsa came in as the 3rd best score for the Tigers and posted a very solid round of 78, shooting 38-40 for her two nines. Kennedy Sever carded the 4th and final score on the day for Reedley with a round of 84, one of her best rounds of the season!! The 313 total was a terrific team score at Buena Vista Golf Course, especially with its tough layout and the fact that the greens can be extremely tricky to putt on. Reedley now has an overall record of 23-2 on the 2024 season. Next up on the schedule is Big 8 Conference Tournament #7 at Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera. Fresno City College will be the host for this Big 8 Conference neutral tournament. A tee time start is slated to begin at 12:00 Noon for this Northern California tournament clash on Tuesday.
October 15, 2024 - On a warm and beautiful afternoon in southeastern Madera County, in the city of Madera, the Tigers came out and played a RECORD SETTING round of team golf at Dragonfly Golf Club for Big 8 Tournament #7. The tournament was hosted by Fresno City College. Reedley posted an amazing score of 293, 1 shot over par for the 4 counting scores, and 2 shots better than 2nd place Sac City College for the victory! Leading the way was Ethel Asequia, who shot a fabulous round of 4 under par 68, making 7 Birdies on the day (NEW PROGRAM RECORD)! Ethel earned Co-Medalist Honors for her efforts on the day, and was only one of two players on the day to shoot a score in the 60’s (1st rounds in the 60’s by any player this season!). Ethel has claimed 1st place in the overall conference stroke average standings as a result of her efforts on the day. Jacie Johnson shot her best round as a Tiger, posting a score of 71 (-1) and finishing T-4th overall on the day! Jacie converted on 4 Birdies on her scorecard for the afternoon, and hit 14-14 (100.00%) Fairways in Regulation. Maya Promwongsa shot a solid round of 73, making 5 Birdies on the day, and hitting 17 out of 18 Greens in Regulation! Ava Arredondo shot a 78, which included a double bogey and shooting +5 on her front nine. Ava steadied her round and played very solid golf on her back nine, shooting Even par, and showing her great mental toughness and determination! The 1st place finish enabled the Tigers to come away with 32 points in the Big 8 Conference standings, and solidified their 1st place standings in the Big 8 Conference through 7 tournaments. The Tigers now have an overall head-to-head record of 30-2 on the season, including 27-2 in the Big 8 Conference. The Tigers are looking to improve on their position in the Big 8 with 5 regular season tournaments left. Next up for the Tigers is Big 8 South Division Tournament #8 at Ridge Creek Golf Course in Dinuba on Thursday. The Tigers are the host school for this 3-team conference mini tournament.
October 17, 2024 - The Tigers played Big 8 Conference Tournament #8 at Ridge Creek Golf Club with a nice round of golf, shooting a team score of 324, better than everybody in the Big 8, and finished as the 1st place team for the day! The weather was very accommodating for the players on the day, as the majority of the afternoon was filled with sun, a slight breeze, and very comfortable temperatures in the high 70’s. The Tigers took advantage of the tremendous scoring conditions, finishing with three scores in the Top 5 on the day. Leading the way for the Tigers was Ethel Asequia, who shot a score of 72. Ethel was the overall Medalist, shooting the best round of the day with 4 Birdies on her card. Maya Promwongsa also had a very solid day, posting a round of 75, hitting 14 greens in regulation and also making 4 Birdies during her round. Miya Zolkoske followed with a good performance, firing a score of 88, even though her irons let her down some during the afternoon. Kennedy Sever capped the scoring for the Tigers on the afternoon, shooting a round of 89, driving the ball well and hitting 12 of 14 fairways for the day. The Tigers collected 6 points in the Big 8 Conference overall standings, and improved their 2024 season record to 32-2. Big 8 Tournament #9 will take place on Thursday at Buena Vista Golf Course in Taft. Taft College will be the host school at this Big 8 Conference tournament. A shotgun start is scheduled for 12:00 noon in Kern County!
