Women's Golf on Par for the 2023-24 Season

Fresh off a state title in men's golf at Reedley College, Tiger head coach Scott Stark has another good team. After finishing fourth in the state in 2022, Stark is looking for more success in the 2023 women's season.

"This could be our best team ever," said Stark of the Lady Tigers, who open the season Sunday in the Desert Invitational in Palm Desert. The Tigers finished second in the tournament last season and won it in 2019.

The 2023 Lady Tigers will be led by freshman Ethel Asequia, a graduate of Clovis East High School. "Ethel is super talented," said Stark. At the number two spot will be Ava Arredondo, a freshman graduate of Madera South High School.

Two sophomores will handle the third and fourth spot for the second straight season. They are Meghan Hansen of Reedley High and Gabrielle Jasso (El Capitan, Merced).

" Both were solid last season," said Stark.

Miya Zolkoske, a freshman from Tigard High School in Portland, Oregon, will play in the fifth spot while Melanie Davila (Reedley)  returns for the Tigers at six, The seventh member of the Tiger squad is freshman Angelina Tawney of Yosemite High, who is working hard on her game but is behind the top six.

"This group is super talented," said the coach, who is again assisted by former football coach and athletic director John Perkins.

Reedley will play its home matches at the Ridge Creek course in Dinuba. The Tigers' home course has been the Kings River Golf and Country Club since 2009. The men have been at the Kings River since 1963 or 1964, said Stark. The Tiger played a neutral match at Ridge Crest last season and shot their best round of 2022, according to the coach.
