The Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Dinner has been an annual community event since 1997. This event is now a partnership between the Athletic Departments of Fresno City College, Reedley College, State Center Community College District and the Kiwanis Clubs of Fresno – Madera counties. We extend our thanks to the colleges and administrative units of the State Center Community College District, local businesses, individuals and Kiwanis clubs who have joined us for this evening’s celebration of the academic achievement of our scholar-athletes. As a community, we are proud to recognize these young women and men who have achieved honors both academically in their educational pursuits and athletically in their individual sports. As they prepare themselves for leadership roles in their communities we hope that they will pursue those roles in partnership with their local Kiwanis organization.
The 21st Annual Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Banquet was held Monday, May 1 at the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building.
The event recognized scholar athletes from Reedley College, Fresno City College, and Clovis Community College for exceptional academic performance.
Jessica Rudd, Yosemite High School graduate and sophomore member of the Reedley College women’s golf team, and Sawyer Pittman, a Sanger High School graduate and sophomore member of the Reedley College baseball team were recognized as the Reedley College female and male Scholar Athletes of the Year.
In total, 64 athletes from Reedley College were recognized as scholar athletes for achieving a 3.0 to 3.49 grade point average (GPA); and 37 athletes from Reedley College were recognized as Torch Lighters for achieving a 3.5 or greater GPA.
