Women's Golf  Opens Up 2022 With A Third Place Finish In Palm Desert

August 28-29, 2022  -  On a sunny and very warm morning in Palm Desert, with temperatures in the low 90's, the Tigers opened the 1st round of the Desert Invitational, hosted by College of the Desert, with a very solid round of team golf.  Reedley shot a team score of 348 at The Lakes Country Club, leaving them in a tie with COD and in 3rd  place out of the 8 teams at the tournament.  The leading scorer for the Tigers was Freshman Maddie Reed, who posted a great round of -2 under par 70 and lead the tournament field by 1 shot for the day.  Maddie made 3 Birdies on the day, and only had 1 bogey for her opening round. Freshman Keahna Castillo posted an 89 in her 1st round as a Tiger. Freshman Meghan Hansen fired a 92, followed by Freshman Gabrielle Jasso's 97. The 348 team total placed the Tigers in a very good position following the first 18 holes of the tournament.  Round 2 saw the Tigers play a solid round of team golf on a beautiful Monday morning, with very little wind and temperatures in the low 90s.  The Tigers played better as a team, shooting a score of 344.  Leading the way again for Reedley was Maddie Reed, who posted a very fine round of 72 (Even). Keahna Castillo improved by 6 shots over her Round 1 score, posting a very good score of 83.  Meghan Hansen fired a terrific round of 90, beating her Round 1 score by 2 shots as well.  Gabrielle Jasso carded a round of 99, completing the scoring on the day for the Tigers.  Reedley finished the 2-day, 36-hole tournament in 3rd place, and was better than 5 other teams at the Desert Invitational.  Maddie Reed was the Individual Medalist, her 1st victory in her 1st college tournament!! It was a great opening season tournament for the Tiger golfers!  Next up is Big 8 Conference Tournament #1 at Elkhorn Golf Course on Tuesday.  Tee times are scheduled to begin at 12:30, and San Joaquin Delta College will be the host school in Stanislaus County.
