Women's Soccer Prepares For Conference Play

Reedley College takes a season record of 6-0-1 into Tuesday's Central Valley Conference action at Taft College (4-2) after a 1-0 victory over Lake Tahoe Community College (3-4-2) on Sept. 21 in Reedley.

A goal by Isabella Salcedo (Tulare Western) in the 28th minute proved to be the difference in the victory over the Coyotes, who had defeated Clovis 3-2 in Clovis the night before.

Coach Onesta Francis' squad withstood several scoring threats, as they recorded their second shutout of the season.

'We've been spending the week working on our defensive organization," said Francis after the game, "making sure we didn't have any gaps and be ready to pressure the ball or sprint to the ball when it's time. Obviously, the girls did that."

The Tigers go into conference play with the best non-league record in the Central Valley Conference. The coach says to not read too much into those scores. "It's going to be the same as usual, Fresno, Clovis, Taft. I wouldn't even count out some of the other teams.

"Today was a team effort. We had some really big play from our center back Bella Baez, (Strathmore) who finished with 11 interceptions, seven tackles, and nine headers."

The night before, Lake Tahoe had defeated Clovis 3-2.

After facing Taft on Sept. 27, the Lady Tigers are scheduled to host Porterville (0-4) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 before traveling to Merced (0-4) on Oct. 4 for a 2 p.m. contest.
