Women's Soccer Postseason Run Ended By Number Two San Joaquin Delta

Reedley College stayed with the undefeated San Joaquin Delta women's soccer team early before the Mustangs took control in the second half on Saturday afternoon in Stockton.

The 21-0-2 Mustangs eliminated the 9-9-3 Tigers from the California Community College Athletic Association Northern California Regional playoffs with a 5-1 victory.

It was the first playoff experience in the three-year history of the RC women's soccer program under head coach Onesta Francis.

The Lady Mustangs have allowed only six goals all season.

"Delta is stacked," said Coach Francis. "They have athletes at every position. Their number 10 (Dayana Hernandez, who had a hat trick with three goals for the winners) is an elite playmaker. Our girls fought hard. Martha Lopez scored on a 40-yard free-kick. But we ran out of gas in the second half. Playing in an overtime game in Solano Thursday really took its toll." Delta advances to face Las Positas, a 3-1 winner over the Lady Tigers' Central Valley Conference rival Taft College, on Nov. 26.
