Softball Recap For The Week

With two more weeks left in the regular season, the Reedley College Tiger softball team remains in a tie for first place in the Central Valley Conference with the College of the Sequoias Giants.

Reedley faced Porterville on Tuesday, April 9 in the Lady Tigers' final regular season games. Sophomores Emily Grimbeby, Mariah Hernandez, Aunika Castellanos and Sandra Vallejo were honored before the 1 pm doubleheader. The Tigers travel to Ridgecrest to face Cerro Coso on Thursday before facing Merced on the road in an April 16 twinbill and going to Fresno City to close out the regular season on April 18.

The California Community College Athletic Association Northern California Regional playoffs begin on May 3.

At this writing, Reedley is ranked 14th in the state and seventh in Northern California.

The Tigers went 3-2 last week, splitting a doubleheader with Sequoias on April 2 at home, winning the opener 4-3 and dropping the nightcap 2-0. Reedley needed eight innings to pull out a 3-2 home win on Thursday.

In a non-conference doubleheader in Aptos against Cabrillo College on Friday, Reedley needed nine innings to win the opener 4-2 before falling 6-5 in the second game.

A three-run homer off the bat of Castellanos proved to be the difference in the first game with Sequoias before being held to four hits in the second game.

Reedley battled back from a 2-0 deficit to down Taft in Reedley on Thursday. After tying the game with an RBI double in the sixth, a single by Patty Hernandez scored Vallejo with the winning run in the eighth.
