Men's Golf Opens Season With a Second Place Finish at Brookside

February 5, 2018  -  The Reedley College Tigers opened the season by playing in the 1st annual Brookside Invitational, an 18-hole event hosted by Chabot College.  The tournament was held at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, a very demanding layout with water on 13 holes. The only teams invited to this season opening tournament were the teams that qualified for the Northern California Regional Championships in 2017.  The Tigers posted a very solid team score of 376, placing them in 2nd place out of the 8 teams on the day.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Freshman Adam Nelson, who shot a round of 1 over par 73.  Freshman John Karayan posted a fine round of 74.  Freshman Dylan Otto also turned in a nice round of 75 (+3).  Sophomore Calvin Mitchell and Freshman Xavier Coreno both posted competitive rounds of 77 to round out the scoring for the Tigers. Reedley's team score was only outdone by Chabot College's 363 on the day. Overall, it was a very impressive way to start the 2018 season, but the Tigers know that they need to continue to get better in order to have the kind of season that they want.  The next tournament on the schedule is the Eagle Classic in Beaumont next Wednesday.  It will be a very good indicator of how competitive the Tigers will be this season, especially competing against 15 other Southern California teams, going on the road with an overnight stay and playing a very difficult Tukwet Canyon Golf Course. Mt. San Jacinto College of the tough Pacific Coast Athletic Conference is the host school for the event.  An 11:00 shotgun start is scheduled on the beautiful Morongo Golf Club facility.
