Reedley Baseball Prepares For 2020 CVC Conference

Reedley College will take a season record of 8-3 into Tuesday's Central Valley Conference opener after Saturday's 5-0 victory over the Gavilan College Rams.

The Tigers will face Taft (2-9) in a three-game series on Tuesday in Reedley at 2 p.m., in Taft Thursday at 2 pm and back in Reedley Saturday at 2 p.m.

Alex Escobar and Josiah Heshmaty combined on a three-hit shutout of the Rams. Gavilan only had four base runners in the game. Matthew Mathis hit a solo home run in the second inning while Jake Renteria blasted a shot over the 370-foot sign for a home run in the fifth. Justin Tiger added a pair of doubles to the 10-hit attack while Jesse Holguin had a pair of singles and walked twice to lift his on-base percentage to nearly .500.

On Thursday, Reedley dropped a 2-0 decision to then-undefeated Sacramento City College. The Tigers were held to four hits and stranded eight base runners. Sacramento scored with two out in the fifth inning off hard-luck losing pitcher Matthew Mathis and a solo home in the ninth.
