Reedley College pitcher Matthew Mathis, who pitched seven innings of no-hit ball against Mission College on Feb. 7, was named Nor Cal Pitcher of the week by the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association.
Mathis, a freshman from Clovis East, struck out nine and walked only one. After walking a batter to start the second, he retired the next 13 batters in a row as he improved to 2-0 on the season for the 7-2 Tigers. In his first start against Modesto, Mathis started with four perfect innings.
This week, the Tigers host Sacramento City College Thursday at 4 pm before entertaining Gavilan College on Saturday at 1 pm. Reedley opens Central Valley Conference action Tuesday at 2 pm, hosting Taft College.
