Tiger Soccer Delivers a Key Conference Victory vs. Madera

Reedley Edges Out Madera with a 1-0 Victory on Garcia's Lone Goal

October 25, 2024, Reedley, CA — In a closely contested soccer match on Friday night, Reedley College managed to clinch a 1-0 victory over Madera College, thanks to a second-half goal from defender Stephanie Garcia. Reedley's defense and goalkeeping, led by Daisy Vasquez, were instrumental in preserving the shutout, as the team held off a determined Madera offense.

First Half: Defensive Stalemate

The first half of the game saw both teams locked in a defensive struggle. Madera applied early pressure, generating a total of 14 shots and six on target throughout the game, but they couldn't find a way past Reedley's defensive line. Reedley's goalkeeper, Daisy Vasquez, stood strong, making key saves that would ultimately keep the game scoreless through halftime.

Second Half: Reedley Breaks Through

The deadlock was broken in the 60th minute when Stephanie Garcia stepped up with an unassisted strike, giving Reedley the lead. Garcia's goal proved to be the difference-maker, and although Madera continued to press forward, they were unable to convert their opportunities into points.

Key Players and Defensive Prowess

Vasquez's performance in goal was flawless, as she recorded six saves, staving off Madera's attacks and anchoring Reedley's backline. Defender Jennifer Martinez also played a crucial role, tallying a team-high seven shots, all on target, and bolstering the defensive effort.

While Madera's attempts on goal outnumbered Reedley's, the Reedley defense remained resolute, with defenders Lizbeth Velazquez and Nevaeh Moncada each receiving yellow cards in the second half as they worked to thwart Madera's advances.

Final Thoughts

Reedley's hard-earned victory over Madera highlights their defensive resilience and teamwork, propelling them forward with momentum. This was a key win for the Tigers as they solidified their hold on 3rd place in the CVC table. The Tigers moved to 6-5-5 overall and 5-1-4 in Central Valley Conference Play.  With only four games to go in the regular season and holding on to the 20th best power point rating in NorCal, the Tigers have a chance to qualifiy for playoffs which has expanded to 24 teams in NorCal. The Tigers play their last home game (Sophomore Night) on Tuesday at 6pm vs. 2nd place Merced College.  This will prove to be a key match in the home stretch of CVC play.  So come on out and cheer on the TIgers in their hunt for the 3C2A playoffs.
