With a 1-0 home win over Cabrillo College Friday night, the young Reedley College women's soccer team broke into the win column in 2024. The Tigers move to 1-4-1 overall and have completed their non-conference preseason games.
The Tigers have been plagued by injuries from preseason that have 10 plaers out of action (four starters). However, the reserves came up big to help the team notch their first win of the season. "I'm really happy for the team, said Coach Francis, they've really been working hard under difficult circumstances and have kept a positive attitude!". The hope is that we'll have everyone back by the time conference play begins.
Goalie Mary Valenzuela (Arvin) recorded two amazing saves in the final minutes (she finished with four saves) of the shutout win. Jennifer Martinez (Exeter) scored the game's only goal on the Reedley pitch in the 40th minute.
In addition to the game, we had "Staff Appreciation Night" at Reedley Soccer Field before the game. That night we celebrated the recent retirement and 36 year service of Mrs. Lisa McAndrews. Lisa was the Residence Hall Manager for 36 years and was "Mom" to so many and truly made it their home-away-from-home! Coach Francis stated that, "We just wanted to thank Lisa for ALL of her service and love that she gave to her students and we wish her all the very best in retirement!".
Reedley was scheduled to open Central Valley Conference action on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Lemoore College before hosting Taft College on Friday, Sept. 20 at 6pm. On Tuesday, Sept. 26, Reedley goes on the road to meet Madeira fot the first time.
