Reedley fell to 0-2 on the young season after a 23-0 road loss to the second ranked team in California, the defending Northern California champion College of San Mateo Bulldogs.
Next up for Reedley is another team from the Bay 6 Conference, the 1-0 Foothill College Owls. After having their season opener canceled after Contra Costa dropped football due to a lack of players, Foothill opened the new season Saturday with a 31-13 win over a future Tiger opponent, Feather River.
In San Mateo, the Bulldogs scored 17 points on special teams. Seven of those points came on a 90-yard kickoff return to start the second half. The Tigers managed just eight net rushing yards in 30 plays and finished with 139 yards of total offense. Reedley had possession for over 40 minutes.
Backup quarterback Ty Chambers (Lemoore) led Reedley with 23 rushing yards in seven attempts. Punter Jonatan Chavez had a 60-yard punt for the Tigers, averaging 32.7 yards in his seven attempts. Freshman Ki'mauri Washington (Edison, Fresno) had six solo tackles to lead the Tiger defense.
The Tigers return home this Saturday for a 1pm kickoff at Reedley HS Stadium.
