Roadrunners Outlast Reedley in Season Finale

Oroville, Calif. - Sophomore running back Christian Vaughn punched in the go-ahead score with six seconds remaining to lift the Butte football team to a 30-24 win over Reedley in the Northern California Bowl on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore linebacker Aiden Sullivan was named the Player of the Game, while Vaughn earned Offensive Player of the Game and sophomore defensive lineman Cody Carlson was tabbed Defensive Player of the Game.

Vaughn rushed for 61 of the team's 81 total yards on the final drive of the game, amassing 202 total yards on the day on 24 attempts for three touchdowns. With the final effort, Vaughn propelled himself back into being the top rusher in the state, averaging 132.4 per game for 1,456 total yards on 209 carries.

Defensively, Sullivan racked up a game-high 13 tackles, eight solo, with five recorded as tackles for loss for 14 yards, including 1.5 sacks. He finishes the season ranked eighth for tackles for loss (19.5) and ninth for total tackles (82.0). Carlson wrapped up the game with eight tackles, three for loss for 10 yards, with 1.5 sacks.

Sophomore Tre Patterson paced the receiving corp with two catches for 41 yards, while freshman Brandon Smith recorded a pair of receptions for 29 yards and a score. Sophomore quarterback Rieger Sayre went 8-of-16 for 100 yards, adding 51 rushing yards.

The Roadrunners finished their 2023 campaign with a 9-2 overall record and ranked No. 7 in the state.
