Softball Bounces Back with a Pair of Wins

Wins in extra innings and by the run rule helped the Tigers improve to 3-2 on the young season on Friday afternoon in Reedley.

Coach Stephanie Nomura's Tigers recorded 6-5 and 9-1 victories over Mendocino College Friday. Reedley battled back from a 5-1 deficit as Hope Ficher's walkoff single scored Trinity Sanchez, who had singled in the ninth inning.

"We were hungry to play again," said Nomura, as the Tigers had four games rained out and rescheduled because of rain. "We were unable to practice for 12 days."

The coach was super pleased with the team"s play. "We are playing 14 as one and are all in for each other. We had great practices this week. We are trusting the process."

Trinity Sanchez and Hailee Zapien led the first game offense with two singles each. Nissa Gonzalez had 3 clutch RBI's in the comeback win. Starting pitcher Alexis Wright allowed nine hits in six innings and struck out nine, winning pitcher Mia Barbosa allowed one hit in three shutout innings and fanned five.

In the second game, Mendocino scored one run in the first and were blanked by Barbosa the rest of the way. Anahi Castillo was 4 for 4 with two doubles and two singles.

Reedley is scheduled to host Cosumnes River College on Thursday 2/22 at 12 & 2 and then again on Friday 2/23 vs. Feather River in a doubleheader at Noon & 2pm, weather permitting.

NOTE:  The rainout game vs. Shasta College has been rescheduled for 3/16/24 at 11am & 1pm.  Game Schedule is updated as of 2/21/24.
