Tiger Baseball Has the Best Start in Central Valley Conference at 7-1

The Reedley College baseball team ran out of comebacks as its 7-game winning streak came to an end on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.

A 12-2 loss to Monterey Peninsula College Saturday broke the win streak, which included a 4-2 Tigers victory on Feb. 8 in Monterey. The Tigers recorded a wild 17-15 victory over Cuesta in San Luis Obispo on Friday before the Saturday loss to Monterey.

On Tuesday Feb. 13 they'll host a rematch vs. Cuesta at 2pm before traveling to Sacramento City on Thursday and opening Central Valley Conference play on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 2 pm vs.West Hills - Coalinga.

Against MPC, the Tigers found themselves behind 10-0 before getting on the scoreboard on a solo home run in the seventh inning by Mykey Ramirez. Starting pitcher Francisco Espejo gave up seven runs in two and two third innings.

Dusty Vela was the hero in the comeback win over Cuesta. The second baseman hit a go ahead three-run homer in the ninth inning to give him six RBI in the win. Starting pitcher Will Gagnon was touched for seven runs in theee innings, raising his earned run average to 4;75. But he did strike out eight, raising his season total to 36; which comes out to 20.25 per nine innings. Goo Groppetti recorded his fourth save.

Brody Block hit a three-run homer in the Feb. 6 win over Monterey. Jacob Crain was the winning pitcher relief working 4:1 innings of relief with Groppetti earning the save.
