Women's Soccer Wins Over West Hills Lemoore

Reedley College would like to start a women's soccer rivalry with the West Hills College Lemoore Golden Eagles.

That rivalry is off to a good start for the Lady Tigers, who used a hat trick by Sabrina Cabrera to record a 4-2 Central Valley Conference victory over the Golden Eagles on Oct. 22 in Reedley. It was the first conference win in three matches for Reedley while WCL dropped to 0-3 in the CVC.

The latest California Community College Athletic Association rankings had the Tigers tied for 25th in the state while the Golden Eagles were 18th.

Cabrera opened the scoring about 10 seconds into the match before Cecilia Zuniga made it 2-0 a short time later. But WCL tied it before halftime on an own goal and a goal by Litzy Pimentel.

Cabrera broke the tie by scoring from about 40 yards out and then added an insurance goal about 24 minutes later.

A yellow card was awarded after the Golden Eagles had a goal wiped out on an offsides call. A short time later, a Lemoore player left the pitch on a red card.

Tiger assistant coach Ian Lynch was the acting head coach in the absence of Onesta Francis.

Lynch said, "Sabrina Cabrera was the clear player of the match with her first career hat trick. She set the tone by scoring in the first 10 seconds of the game.

"Cecilia Zuniga brought great energy to the game and that energy was rewarded when she scored the second goal of the night for us.

"We did a great job of defending in groups tonight and Bianca Ramirez was the leader in that regard. She was able to anticipate and break up their attacks all game long."
