Women's Soccer Shuts Out #19 Ranked Chabot

It may have been the biggest win in the three-year history of the Reedley College women's soccer team.

With Reedley Youth Soccer matches going on nearby, the Lady Tigers rolled to a 4-0 victory over the Chabot College Gladiators, who came into the Saturday morning contest at Reedley College with a season record of 4-0 and a ranking of tied for 19th in the state by the California Community College Athletic Association. The Tigers improved to 4-2, the second-best record in the Central Valley Conference.

It turned out to be the only match of the week for Coach Onesta Francis' Tigers as a Friday contest with Compton College was canceled.

Reedley won't play at home again for four weeks when they host the state's top-ranked team, the 6-0-1 Fresno City College Rams.

The series of four straight road games begin on Tuesday, Sept. 23, as the Lady Tigers head to Ridgecrest to face a former conference rival in the Cerro Coso College Coyotes.

It didn't take long for Reedley to take the lead against Chabot, as Kalese Sunamoto scored in the fourth minute on an assist from her sister, Sumiko Sunamoto. Just 14 minutes later, the Reedley sister act found the back of the net again as Sabrina Cabrera (Dos Palos) scored on an assist from goalie Sarah Cabrera.

The Lady Tigers made it 3-0 in the second half as Kalese Sunamoto scored in the 52nd minute on an assist from Cecelia Zuniga. In the 88th minute, Sabrina Cabrera scored her second goal of the day on an assist from Acryi Ambriz.

Sarah Cabrera was credited with five saves while Ambriz finished with eight tackles to lead the Tiger defense.
