Women's Basketball Wins Big To Open 2019-20

Before the start of the new basketball season, Reedley College head coach Dan Kilbert knew that his team's quickness would be a key to his team's success.

Well, that quickness helped the Lady Tigers open the new season with a 67-point victory over the Hartnell College Panthers in Salinas. Reedley had six players score in double figures in the 119-52 victory.

"We were pushing the ball and being very unselfish," said Coach Kilbert. "We used our speed to turn things from defense to offense. We played hard on defense."

The 119 points are probably a school record but there are no records available.

Reedley jumped out to a 29-11 lead after the opening 10 minutes before a 34-point second quarter increased the lead to 63-25 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Panthers 23-8 in the third quarter before a 33-point final quarter.

Freshman Annie Lopez (Sanger) led the winners with 20 points. Sophomore Sam Mendoza (Dinuba) was next with 19 while Tristan Randle netted 18. Also in double figures were Aurelie Bravo with 15, Amiyah Hendrix with 13 and Chastity Martinez with 12.

The Lady Tigers return to the court on Friday, Nov. 15 at Visalia's Porter Field House in the College of the Sequoias Crossover with a 2 pm matchup with Folsom Lake (2-1) before facing Cerritos (1-3) at 1 pm Saturday. Both opponents received votes in the preseason California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association Northern and Southern California polls but did not make the top 15.
