Men's Golf Takes Fifth In Season Opener

January 30-31, 2022  -  The Reedley College Tigers played in the 10th annual Point Conception Open, a 36-hole event hosted by the Ventura College Pirates.  The tournament was held at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc on California's beautiful Central Coast. La Purisima G.C. is ranked the 33rd most difficult public golf course in America, with a slope of 136 and a rating of 75.4, so is truly a great test of golf.  The Tigers posted a very solid Round #1 team score of 395 (+35), and were in 5th place, 14 shots behind the leader, COC, after the initial round of play.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Freshman Jacob Moller, who posted a terrific score of 76.  Jacob played really solid golf, shooting scores of 39-37 for his two nines, making 3 Birdies and an Eagle on the day. Next for the Tigers was Freshman Patrick Sperling, who carded a nice round of 78.  Freshman Emil Eriksson played very efficient golf from tee to green, and shot a score of 79.  Freshman Cole Obrigewitsch shot a score of 80, carding 2 Birdies for his round.  Lastly, Freshman Jack Peters posted a round of 82 to cap the scoring for the Tigers on Day #1.  Day 2 saw the Tigers post a team score of 394, capturing 5th place for the tournament, finishing behind some of the biggest powerhouse programs from Southern California. The team medalist for the Tigers in Round #2 was Cole Obrigewitsch, who led the way with a fantastic round of Even par 72. Cole tied for the single best score on the day for his efforts! Cole made 4 Birdies on the afternoon, shooting scores of 35-37 for the round. Emil Eriksson also posted a very solid round of 73 in just his 2nd college round for the Tigers. Emil also made 4 Birdies on the day, and was -2 on his front nine, the best 9-hole score for the Tigers in the tournament. Patrick Sperling posted a score of 79, but had a terrific 35 (-1) on his front 9. Jacob Moller, Jack Peters and Josh Bennett all posted rounds of 85 to cap the scoring on the day for the Tigers. The Tigers' 5th place finish was another solid performance for the team at this difficult and strong tournament, and was a terrific way to start the 2022 season! The Tigers were 52 shots better than the next best Northern California team in the tournament, a nice indication of the strength of the Tiger program in their region. On another positive note, both Cole Obrigewitsch and Emil Eriksson finished in T-5th position individually, and were selected to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding play! The Tigers look forward to their next tournament at Turlock Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.  The match will be a dual against Modesto Junior College at their home course, and will provide another early strong test for the Tigers.  Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 noon in Turlock.
