Men's Golf Takes Third In Season Opener

The Reedley College Tigers played in the 8th annual Point Conception Open, a 36-hole event hosted by Santa Barbara City College.  The tournament was held at La Purisima Golf Course in Lompoc on California's Central Coast and is the 33rd ranked most difficult public golf course in America, with a slope of 136 and a rating of 75.4.  The Tigers posted a very solid Round #1 team score of 383 (+23), and were in 2nd place by only 2 shots after the initial round of play.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Freshman Tommy O'Rourke, who carded a 75.  Tommy made 5 Birdies on the day in his 1st college tournament.  Sophomores Bailey Flickinger and Xavier Coreno both posted solid rounds of 76.  Additionally, Sophomores Dylan Otto and Morgan Cooper completed the scoring by shooting scores of 78.  Day 2 saw the Tigers post another solid team score of 385. The team medalist for the Tigers was again Tommy O'Rourke, who led the way with a terrific round of 72 (Even).  Freshman Beau Willett fired an impressive round of 74 in his 2nd college tournament and bounced back nicely from a tough Round #1. Morgan Cooper also posted a very solid round of 77.  Dylan Otto and Xavier Coreno rounded out the scoring by shooting 81's. The Tigers' 3rd place finish was their highest ever in this tournament and was a very good way to start the 2019 season. Only two dominant Southern California teams finished ahead of the Tigers, who were merely 7 shots from winning the 14-team tournament. The Tigers look forward to their next tournament at Sunnyside Country Club on Monday.  The tournament will be the Big 8 Conference Valley Division opener and will be hosted by Fresno City College.  It will be a very good indicator of how competitive the Tigers will be this season versus the other 4 teams in the newly realigned Big 8 Conference in 2019.  Tee time is scheduled for 12:00 noon in Fresno.
