Tiger Football Loses To Laney

After a loss at home to Laney, the Reedley College Tiger football team saw its 10-game winning streak come to an end.

Reedley never led against Laney, as the Eagles, a NorCal powerhouse in the last decade, returned to Oakland with a 52-27 win.

The 3-1 Tigers will try and start a new winning streak this Saturday afternoon at the Reedley High School Stadium in a 1 p.m. Homecoming rematch with the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs. Reedley defeated the 0- 4 Mustangs 27-13 in the season opener on Sept. 4 in Stockton. The latest Delta loss was a 63-37 decision Saturday at home to Sierra College in which they gave up 514 total yards, 295 on the ground. They are one of 13 winless teams in the state.

Reedley came into the Laney game ranked tenth in the state sports information directors poll and 15th in the JC Athletic Bureau poll. Laney was the highest-ranked team in the state with two losses, ranked 21st in the JCAB poll.

The Tigers used two quarterbacks throughout the game, Jordan Solomon and Josh Magana. Solomon threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns while Magana had a 41-yard run for Reedley's first touchdown and had a touchdown pass. But they combined for three interceptions with the last two being returned for Laney's fourth-quarter scores.

Lazavier Moore was credited with 14 tackles (10 solos) and also had Reedley's only quarterback sack to lead the Tiger defense.

"Laney is a good team," said Tiger head coach Rob Hartenfels. He added that the Eagles were the quickest team Reedley has faced all season. He said that a blown coverage cost the Tiger's an early second-half touchdown after Reedley was down by seven points.

Both quarterbacks support each other, added the coach. They both root for the other one more than you would think"

He said that Delta would come in as a hungry football team. 'It is difficult to beat a team twice," he said.
