Women's Golf Places 3rd At Regional, Move On To State Championships

After a third-place finish at the Northern California Regional women's golf tournament in Davis last Sunday and Monday, the Central Valley Conference champion Reedley College squad will compete in the state tournament at the Morro Bay Golf Course this Sunday and Monday.

The Lady Tigers, coached by Scott Stark and John Perkins, will be one of eight teams competing in the state tournament. Reedley has played in the NorCal tournament four out of the last five years and has won the conference title three out of the last four years.

Reedley finished with a team score of 663 at the Wildhorse Golf and Country Club, was 23 strokes behind Regional champion Sierra College. Defending state champion Modesto Junior College finished in second, 12 strokes ahead of the Tigers. Fresno City College, the second place team in CVC, will advance to state with a Regional score of 706.

Leading the way for Reedley was Serena DiMauro, a freshman from Fresno's Central High School, finished fifth at the Regional with a 81-79-160.  The team's only competing sophomore, Carley Lindhaur of Sanger, was next at 79-84-163. Maddie Caesar, a freshman from Lindsay, was next 79-86-165 while Reedley High graduate Lauren Costa followed with an 88-87-165. Last spring, Costa was a member of RC's conference champion softball team.

Recording non-scoring totals at the Regional were Eliza Hernandez, a freshman from Sanger at 181 and Serena Garcia, a freshman from Dinuba at 189.

Stark reported that Reedley finished 23-1 in CVC play. "That was the third-best regular season in the history of the Tiger program," said the coach.
