Reedley Softball Wraps Up The Regular Season

After settling for a second place finish in the Central Valley Conference behind the College of the Sequoias, the 2019 Reedley College softball Tigers will have to wait and see who and where they will open the Northern California Regionals on May 4.

Reedley finished the regular season last Thursday in Fresno with an 8-6 loss to the Fresno City College Rams. That gave Reedley a conference record of 17-4 (two games behind COS) and an overall record of 31-9.

Reedley opened the week by splitting a double header with Porterville College in Reedley on Sophomore Day, April 16. The Lady Tigers honored sophomores Aunika Castellanos, Emily Grimbeby, Mariah Hernandez and Sandra Vallejo along with team support staff before the twinbill.

In the first game, all seven Reedley runs came across the plate in the first two innings. Both Mariah Hernandez and Vallejo had three hits each to lead a 12-hit attack while Castellanos ripped a pair of doubles. Vallejo finished with three RBI.

But the Tigers lost both Sam Lizaola and Bobbie Falcon to injuries in the opener forcing Reedley to play the nightcap with just nine healthy players.

Reedley had a 2-1 lead before Annisa Lopez's two-run homer (after the seventh intentional walk of the day to conference home run leader Kiki Angilau gave Porterville the lead for good.

Vallejo had three hits and drove in three runs in the loss to Fresno City. The Rams erased a 2-0 Reedley lead with four-run outbursts in the third and fourth innings.
