Tigers lose to West Hills 27-22

Within a span of about 14 minutes on Saturday afternoon in Reedley, the West Hills College Falcons football team scored 21 unanswered points enroute to a 27-22 Golden Coast Conference victory over the Reedley College Tigers.

The loss dropped Coach Eric Marty's squad to 2-3 in conference play and 4-5 overall going into next Saturday's season finale at first place Monterey Peninsula College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm.

It took only three plays for Reedley to open the scoring after a 25-yard kickoff return by Christophor Jones (Greensboro, NC) to start the game. Runs of 41, 5 and 3 yards by Michael Eddings (Shelbyville, TN) got the Tigers into the end zone. Kicker Viktor Cooper (Immanuel) added the extra point.

West Hills took advantage of a lost Tiger fumble to record two Blake Hanggi field goals in less than two minutes to cut the lead to 7-6.

Cooper added a 21-yard field goal of his own to end the first half scoring with Reedley taking a 10-6 lead into the locker room.

Reedley added to the lead on its first possession of the second half by scoring on a 99-yard, 9 play drive. A key play was a 63-yard pass play from Randall Johnson (Los Angeles, CA) to Cam Hill (Wilson, NC). Five plays later, Johnson connected with Gabriel Herrera (Orange Cove) for a 13-yard score.

But three straight touchdowns (two by pass and an interception return for a score) put the Falcons ahead to stay.

Reedley closed out the scoring as Johnson scored on a 2-yard keeper with four minutes and 16 seconds left.

Before the game, the Tigers honored eight sophomores. The list included wide receiver Nicholas Clarke (Sharpsburg, GA), defensive back Tarique Wade (Madison, AL), defensive end Dequalin Levo (Natchitoches, LA), injured running back Trevion Perryman (Lemoore), offensive lineman Gunnar Benson (Sanger), offensive lineman Juan Beltran (Orange Cove), wide receiver Will McKinnis (Edmond, OR) and defensive lineman Amorris Lyles (Wilson, NC).
