TIgers defeat Cabrillo 35-21

The Reedley College Tiger football team played Keep Away with the Cabrillo College Seahawks on Saturday night at Carl Connelly Stadium in Aptos.

Thanks to running 97 offensive plays compared to 53 for Cabrillo, the Tigers had a happy ride home after a 35-21 Golden Coast Conference victory. The win improved Reedley to 2-2 in conference play and 4-4 overall.

Reedley opened the scoring with just over nine and a half minutes left in the opening quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Caleb Paulson and Viktor Cooper conversion kick.

Cabrillo came back to tie the contest with three minutes and 45 minutes left in the first half before the Tigers outscored the Seahawks 28-14 in the final 30 minutes.

Quarterback Randall Johnson, who leads Reedley in scoring this season, had touchdown runs of 2 and 16 yards in the third quarter. Trevion Perryman put Reedley ahead briefly with a 2-yard scoring run before Terrance Smith tied the contest with a 65-yard touchdown run just 16 seconds later.

Johnson's 16-yard scoring run with 33 seconds left in the first half put Reedley ahead to stay.

Tiger freshman running back Michael Eddings, who led all rushers with 156 yards on 15 carries, closed out the scoring with a 59-yard touchdown run.

The Tigers dominated time of possession with 40:23 of possession, compared to 19:37 for the Seahawks. Reedley finished with 481 yards of total offense while Cabrillo (1-7) had 255 yards. The Tigers recorded eight first downs from penalties as the Seahawks were flagged 18 times for 295 yards compared to eight flags for 75 yards by the Tigers.

Next up for Reedley will be a 1 pm Saturday matchup at Reedley High's Sal Gonzalez Field with the West Hills Coalinga Falcons. Last Saturday, West Hills improved to 4-3 overall with a 24-7 home win over Hartnell.
