Tiger Baseball Opening Weekend Report

After dropping the first three games of the season in the Bay Area last weekend, the Reedley College Tiger baseball team is scheduled to host four games this weekend, weather permitting.

The homestand begins at 2pm Thursday against the Bakersfield College Renegades, who started the new season with two wins. Action in the College of the Sequoias Tournament begins Friday at 1pm against Golden West (0-2) before a 4pm matchup with Mission (0-0-1). On Saturday, the Tigers are scheduled to host Napa Valley (0-2) at 2 pm.

Reedley heads to Cupertino on Tuesday, Feb. 5 to face the DeAnza College Dons (1-1) at 2pm.

The Tigers started the new season last Friday with a 6-1 loss to Laney College in Oakland. Reedley was outhit 17-4 and was charged with three errors. Their only run came in the seventh after back-to-back doubles by Nick Martinez (who also had a single) and Henry Degman.

On Saturday, Reedley opened up a 5-1 lead through five and a half innings before dropping an 8-5 decision to College of Marin in a contest played at Laney.

Mitchell Silvas blasted a two-run homer in the fourth made it 4-1 before the Tigers added another run in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk.

But Marin scored seven times in the next three innings against the Tiger bullpen, tallying three runs in both the sixth and seventh.

Sierra College improved to 3-0 with an 8-1 win over the Tigers on Sunday at Skyline College in San Bruno. All of the Wolverines runs came in the first four innings. Tiger starter Masyn Ashworth gave up just one hit in the first two innings but allowed five runs after walking four and hitting three batters.
