Tigers Sweep Taft In Week One of CVC Play

Reedley College recorded another come from behind Central Valley Conference baseball victory over Taft College on Saturday afternoon.

But this time, Reedley came back from only a three-run deficit in a 9-4 win over Taft. Last Thursday, the Tigers rebounded from an 8-1 deficit in a 13-9 triumph over the Cougars.

The Thursday win featured an 8-run ninth inning. On Saturday, Reedley scored six times in the the third inning to take control. Luke Juarez scored the go ahead run on a wild pitch. Reedley had only two hits in the big inning but took advantage of four straight walks and two Taft errors.

The Tigers recorded at least one hit in every inning and finished with a 10-hit attack. Nick Martinez drove in two runs with a triple and a single while Mitchell Crawford had a double and a single. Every Tiger hitter recorded at least one hit and the one that didn't, Kevin Page, drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

One of five hits allowed by winning pitcher Alec Akins (3-1) in six innings was a two-run homer off the bat of Kyle Gaura in the second inning. Reliever Brandon Steele gave up one hits in two innings before closer Sid Lacy came on in the ninth to strikeout the side.

Reedley, College of the Sequoias and Merced all started conference play with three wins. The scheduled Reedley at Merced 6 pm matchup has been moved from Tuesday night to Monday night in an attempt to avoid the forecast of almost half an inch on Tuesday. The Tigers' next home game is scheduled for 6 pm Thursday in Reedley.
