The Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Award honors student-athletes from Reedley College, Clovis Community College, and Fresno City College for their achievements in the classroom. Those earning a 3.0 or better are invited to a superb awards banquet in downtown Clovis. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the event was canceled for 2020.

Reedley College President Jerry Buckley and Director of Athletics and Student-Athlete Success, Dr. David Santesteban still wanted to give Tiger student-athletes the opportunity to receive their awards. Athletic department staff hosted a drive-thru award pickup in the Reedley College parking lot. Student-athletes were able to get their certificates and a gift from the Kiwanis. They also had the opportunity to take a photo with family and coaching staff while adhering to campus social distancing guidelines.

The Reedley College men's and women's scholar-athletes of the year were present to receive their awards along with a personalized Tiger blanket. Jared Haug (men's tennis) and Torey Foster (women's equestrian) both earned a 4.0 GPA in the spring 2020 and fall 2020 semesters.

The Kiwanis Torch of Excellence Dinner has been an annual community event since 1997. This event is now a partnership between the Athletic Departments of Fresno City College, Reedley College, State Center Community College District, and the Kiwanis Clubs of Fresno – Madera counties. We extend our thanks to the colleges and administrative units of the State Center Community College District, local businesses, individuals, and Kiwanis clubs who have joined us for this evening's celebration of the academic achievement of our scholar-athletes. As a community, we are proud to recognize these young women and men who have achieved honors both academically in their educational pursuits and athletically in their individual sports. As they prepare themselves for leadership roles in their communities we hope that they will pursue those roles in partnership with their local Kiwanis organization.
